What is Response to Instruction?
Response to Instruction (RTI) is a multi-step process in which students are provided research-based instruction. Students who are struggling in a particular area may be provided with instructions designed to meet their academic and/or behavioral needs while students who excel in a particular area may be provided additional learning opportunities. Research-based interventions are strategies shown to be effective through research that are used to address specific skill deficits and enhance student learning. Students progress is monitored throughout the process in order to determine whether additional or different instructions are needed. RTI typically involves a three-tiered model with increasingly intense interventions.
