Board of Trustees

A graduate of Hanover Central High School, Mrs. Haskell brings years of experience working with Hanover students to the Board of Trustees.  She served on the Hanover staff for ten years before switching to insurance, and currently works as an Account Manager for Ryan Spangler State Farm.  She returned to Cedar Lake in 2006 to raise her family with husband, Michael.  They have four children, all graduates of HCHS:  Mylissa (Branden) Hughes, Angela Haskell, Brittany Haskell and Michael Haskell.  In addition to her service on the School Board, she is currently on the Board of Cedar Lake Summerfest, Chairperson of the Cedar Lake 4^th of July Parade and the Treasurer for Cedar Lake/Hanover Democratic Committee.  “We have amazing administrators, teachers and staff.  I want to continue working with them and supporting our great community,” said Mrs. Haskell, adding; “With the growth of our community, having strong partnerships and connections with the community is essential. 

Mr. Burdan is a native of Cedar Lake and a graduate of Andrean High School in Merrillville.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree at Purdue University and a Mortuary Science degree from Ivy Tech.  He is a member of the family-owned Burdan Funeral Home, Inc. in Cedar Lake.  Mr. Burdan’s wife, Gretchen, is the principal at Red Cedars Elementary. The couple has four sons: Shawn, Mason, Brett, and Trace. “I loved growing up in the tight-knit community of Cedar Lake. It was a wonderful experience and I want to carry over that experience to my duties on the School Board,” he said. This is Mr. Burdan’s first publicly elected office and he brings a strong sense of family values to his position and the Hanover community.    

Mr. Kuzma moved to Dyer, IN in 1988 and graduated from Lake Central High School in 1992. He has been in the Hanover community since November of 2011. He is a US Army Infantry Veteran. He attended Purdue University where he received an Associates of Science degree in Nursing, he is a licensed and registered nurse. He also completed a 5 year apprenticeship program with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 701.

Aaron and Jill Kuzma have been married for 25 years with three children: Sydney, Chase, and Evan. He currently worked at IBEW 701 as a foreman electrician in the Chicagoland area. When asked about his role as a school board member, he said, "As a new School Board member, I look forward to building strong relationships with students, parents, and our community thru transparency, mutual respect, and cooperation.  I want to see a culture that makes people proud to be HC!" He thanks the community for giving him the opportunity to help make our schools successful. 

Mrs. Beilke is a native of Steger, IL and moved to Cedar Lake in 2007.  She and her husband, Todd, have two children; Aidan is a Hanover graduate and pursuing a degree in statistics with a minor in analytics at Purdue Northwest, and Mattea is a senior at Hanover Central High School and will be going to college after. "The education my children have received at HCSC has given them a solid foundation on which they can successfully pursue any path they choose following graduation. " She holds a master's degree in Communications Disorders from Governor's State University and has been a certified and licensed Speech Pathologist for over 25 years. "Our community is growing by leaps and bounds. Due to that growth and the complex and rapidly changing world in which we live, there will be many decisions the district will need to make in the near future and coming years.  It is important to me that we do everything we can to make sure all of our students leave our doors with an educational experience that prepares them to be effective lifelong learners and contributors to society, no matter what path they choose," she explains.  

Mr. Valiska has been a resident of Cedar Lake since 2009. He graduated from T.F. South in 1995 and earned his bachelor's degree in in history and secondary education from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1999. He also has a master's degree in curriculum and instruction. Mr. Valiska has been married to his wife, Kristen, since 2007. Together, they have two children, Lukas and Riley. He has been a social studies teacher at T.F. South High School since 2000. He is excited to work and help build on great things that we have going on in the Hanover community.
