At the January 12, 2021 Hanover Community School Board of Trustees meeting two new Board members took their places to begin to serve the students of Hanover schools. We thought you’d like to get to know them a little better and they graciously provided information about themselves and their goals for the next four years.
New Board Member Tara Beilke
Tara Beilke grew up in Steger, Illinois and graduated from Bloom Trail High School before moving on to her collegiate career. She holds a master’s degree in Communication Disorders from Governor’s State University and is a certified and licensed Speech Language Pathologist. She has spent more than 25 years in the field serving school districts in Illinois, the Department of Health in both Illinois and Indiana and currently does consulting work.
Mrs. Beilke and her husband, Todd, relocated to Cedar Lake 13 years ago. The couple has two children, Aidan, a senior at Hanover Central High School and daughter, Mattea who is a sophomore at Hanover Central. “We are so grateful for the opportunities that they have been afforded through Hanover schools,” she said.
Mrs. Beilke explained her desire to serve on the school board; “I have always been impressed with the education that Hanover provides and have wanted to play an active role in maintaining Hanover as a source of pride for our community. My children are older, and I felt it was the right time to get more involved.” In the years of service ahead Mrs. Beilke recognizes the many changes and challenges that will come with a growing district and rapidly changing world. “It is important to me that we do everything we can to make sure all of our students leave our doors with an educational experience that prepares them to be effective lifelong learners and contributors to society no matter what path they choose.”
When not watching her children compete in sports, Mrs. Beilke has been a volunteer for a local animal rescue for the past 8 years. She has transported and fostered many cats and dogs over those years and currently has one dog and four cats.
We offer our warmest welcome to Mrs. Beilke and look forward to her leadership on the Board of Trustees.
New Board Member Tracy Haskel
Tracy Haskell is a familiar face throughout Hanover schools and the community. Mrs. Haskell grew up in Cedar Lake and moved to Blue Island, IL in 1994, returning to Cedar Lake in 2006 with her husband, Michael, to raise her family within the Hanover district. “The School Corporation and community were a big part of why we moved back here to raise our children,” she said.
The Haskell’s are the proud parents of four Hanover Central High School graduates; Mylissa (Brandan) Hughes, Angela Haskell, Brittany Haskell and Michael Haskell. Her grandson, Hunter is the child of daughter and son-in-law, Mylissa and Brandan Hughes.
She is a graduate of Hanover Central High School and attended Purdue and Ivey Tech. She is licensed in property and casualty insurance and is currently an Account Manager at Ryan Spangler State Farm.
“I worked at Hanover for ten years before I switched to insurance. I have volunteered with the Band and Choirs, the Hanover Central High School Thespians, the PTSO, Pom Cats, Cheer and Athletic Boosters over the past 15 years,” said Mrs. Haskell, who went on to explain; “I still volunteer even though all my kids have graduated from Hanover. I miss working with students. We have amazing administrators, teachers and staff. I want to continue working with them and supporting our great community.”
In her time on the Board Mrs. Haskell, wants to continue to develop strong partnerships and connections within the community. “With the growth in our community partnerships and connections are essential,” she said.
Mrs. Haskell currently serves the community as a member of the Board for Cedar Lake Summerfest, is Chairperson of the Cedar Lake 4th of July Parade and Treasurer for the Cedar Lake/Hanover Democratic Committee.
We welcome her to the Hanover Community School Corporation Board of Trustees and are grateful for her continued willingness to serve the community and our schools.
